It eventually indicted her on two counts of attempted first-degree grand larceny, three counts of second-degree grand larceny, one count of third-degree grand larceny, and one count of misdemeanor theft of services. The most serious charge was for submitting a fraudulent loan application to City National Bank and Fortress Investment Group, while the other larceny charges were for check fraud and the incident in Morocco. Sorokin’s failure to pay hotel and restaurant bills led to the theft of services charge.

Sorokin appeared in New York City Criminal Court on December 18, 2018, and rejected a plea deal that offered three to nine years in prison; Judge Diane Kiesel initially scheduled a trial for March 20, 2019. Sorokin was sentenced to 4 to 12 years in state prison, fined $24,000, and ordered to pay restitution of approximately $199,000. During the trial, Sorokin was imprisoned at Rikers Island.
