Money Heist 5 will have a new twist involving women, says showrunner Alex Pina
Ahead of the final season, the producers of the Netflix crime-drama sat down to talk about the women on the show and whether they'll have the same role in Money Heist Season 5
Money Heist has struck a chord with the audience not only for its crunchy plot, mind-boggling twists and brilliant casting, but also because it boasts of female characters who are vital to the proceedings.
Ahead of the final season, the producers of the Netflix crime-drama sat down to talk about the women on the show and whether they'll have the same role in Money Heist Season 5.During an exclusive virtual set visit and meet, Money Heist showrunner and executive producer Alex Pina revealed that fans will see a much higher number of female robbers in the upcoming season.
“Are they going to play an important role at certain times? I would say that very, very important. And we have added a new twist in this fifth season involving women,” said Pina. Money Heist is narrated by Tokyo. Nairobi's death last season shocked fans. The lady police has led the investigation of both the dacoits. In fact, the two female characters - Lisbon and Stockholm - started out as Inspector Raquel Murillo and hostage Monica Gaztambide, respectively, until they acquired new identities.
Further adding on how the writers deliberately gave equal importance to female characters, Alex Pina emphasized, “I think we have always worked with women and men equally. In this sense, we are committed to giving women a leading role, because at other times men also have a leading role. I don't think it's more or less the same: it stays the same."
Money Heist Season 4 ended on some big cliff-hangers, one of them managing to enter the Lisbon Bank of Spain where the current robbery is taking place. Raquel aka Lisbon makes her way into the building after being shot down by a helicopter, when Gandia shoots Nairobi at point-blank, leaving the gang emotionally broken. Lisbon is expected to lead the robbery inside the bank and play a major role in reconnecting the team emotionally and mentally.
Elaborating on Lisbon's contribution to the fifth season, director and executive producer Jess Colmener said, "The new development this season is that Lisbon will be inside the Bank of Spain. And I think it's a very There's a new element and that gives the series a boost. Suddenly, it's brand new to see Lisbon with a red jumpsuit in charge of the robbery and in constant communication with the professor."
Reiterating Alex Pina's words, Colmener said, "There are going to be big surprises, not just one character, but many. In the first few episodes of the season, we're going to start seeing big surprises involving women."
