AJ Pollock Career
Pollock was a member of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish baseball team as an outfielder and third baseman during his undergraduate career. Pollock was chosen a Freshman All-American for his.372 hitting average, which led the team. He got the 10th Player Award in 2007 while playing for the NECBL Vermont Mountaineers. Pollock was drafted in the first round of the 2009 MLB draught by the Arizona Diamondbacks. In exchange for the signing of Orlando Hudson, he was chosen as a compensation choice by the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Pollock was invited to spring training by the Diamondbacks in 2010. While attempting to make a diving grab, he shattered his right elbow. Due to the injury, Pollock was forced to sit out the entire season. Pollock made his major league debut on April 18, 2012, after being called up for the first time. On April 23, while pinch-hitting for Justin Upton, Pollock got his first MLB hit, a single, against the Phillies. He batted.247 with two home runs and eight RBIs in 31 games with the Diamondbacks that season.
The Los Angeles Dodgers announced on January 26, 2019, that they have signed Pollock to a four-year contract with a player option for a fifth year. Pollock was placed on the disabled list by the Dodgers on April 30, 2019, due to right elbow irritation. It wasn’t until July 12 that he was able to rejoin the team. The Dodgers shifted Pollock to left field for the rest of the season in September. He played in 86 games this season, batting.266/.327/.468, with 15 home runs and 47 RBIs.
Despite the fact that the 2020 season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Pollock appeared in 55 of the Dodgers’ 60 games. Pollock hit his 100th career home run against Adrián Morejón of the San Diego Padres on September 16. With 16 home runs and 34 RBIs, he batted.276/.314 (a career low)/.566 (a career high).
