  • NASA selected Thomas in March 1992, and he reported to NASA’s Johnson Space Center in August 1992.
  • He was named a member of the NASA Astronaut Corps in August 1993, after completing a year of training, and qualified for a position as a mission specialist on Space Shuttle flight crews.
