Bruce Lehrmann was the main advisor for the Liberal Party. He once worked in the office of Senator Linda Reynolds. In March 2019, a Liberal Party employee and colleague called Brittany Higgins accused Bruce of raping her in the office of the Parliament. She was then forced to choose between reporting the criminal or maintaining her employment.
She chose to maintain her silence in order to safeguard the Liberal Party and her job. However, she ultimately chose to stand up and demand justice.
The trial of the man accused of raping a colleague in the Australian Parliament Building in Canberra has commenced. In March 2019, Bruce Lehrmann, a former political staffer, is accused of sexually abusing Brittany Higgins in the office of a government minister. Mr. Lehrmann, 27, filed a not-guilty plea and stated that there was never any sexual contact.
The trial in a Canberra court is likely to last up to six weeks and will feature a large number of well-known witnesses. When presenting their case on Tuesday, prosecutors indicated that the alleged assault occurred after a wild night out with coworkers. The jury was heard that Ms. Higgins and Mr. Lehrmann had visited Parliament House, where they both worked, and that she had passed out on a sofa in a minister’s office.
During a police interview shown in court, Ms. Higgins testified, “The next thing I remember is sitting on the sofa as he raped me.” I’ve denied requests at least six times. ” Throughout the entire surgery, I was crying,” he continued.
According to testimony presented before the Australian Capital Territory Supreme Court, Ms. Higgins consumed eleven drinks that evening and said she was so intoxicated that she “could not write my name” in the days that followed.
As per 9NEWS The ACT government will launch a robust independent investigation into the trial of former political staffer Bruce Lehrmann, who is accused of raping fellow Liberal employee Brittany Higgins in Parliament House.
The board of inquiry, which is akin to a royal commission, was established by the government on Wednesday in response to a number of “complaints and claims” involving the trial, which was halted in late October owing to jury misbehaviour. The charge, which Lehrmann has consistently denied, was scheduled for a retrial in February of next year when it was cancelled out of concern for Higgins’ health.
