Kirkwood joined the BBC’s secretarial reserve in London after graduation. She presented short slots on BBC Radio Scotland, then BBC Radio 2 and BBC Radio 4 after a series of internal changes.She left the BBC after marrying Jimmy Kirkwood and went on to work in recruitment and later as a training consultant for a management firm in Cheshire.She co-hosted a now-defunct cable TV channel, Windsor TV, later renamed Wire TV, with Sacha Baron Cohen in 1992.
