Christopher Owen Ayres was an American stage actor, voice actor, stage director, ADR director, fight choreographer and scriptwriter who worked on a number of Japanese anime series at Funimation, OkraTron 5000, New Generation Pictures and formerly Seraphim Digital/Sentai Filmworks.

He started his acting career at age six and has performed on Broadway and Off-Broadway as well as in numerous regional productions.He got his start voice acting at ADV Films on Kino’s Journey as an extra.The actor first joined Funimation’s dub of Dragon Ball Z Kai but subsequently took the role of high-powered villain Freiza in Dragon Ball.
He participated in several other anime projects providing his unique voice to series like Maburaho, Black Butler, Sengoku Basara, Gantz, Tears to Tiara, Fairy Tail, Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt, and many others. He also served as ADR director and scriptwriter for numerous English dubs.
Cause of Death
In November 2017, Ayres was diagnosed with end-stage COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) and required a double lung transplant to survive. A YouCaring fundraiser was created that seeks $25,000 to assist with medical care and procedures.
