The Irnis Catic Foundation was founded in 2002 by Sanela Diana Jenkins in honour of her brother, who was slain during the Bosnian War. The foundation offers critical support to the University of Sarajevo’s medical facilities.

The Center for Peace and Multi-Ethnic Cooperation awarded Diana Jenkins the Peace Connection medal in 2009. Jenkins was recognised for her continuing support and humanitarian initiatives in Bosnia and Herzegovina at the Advisory Council for Bosnia and Herzegovina Gala in Washington, D.C. on May 5, 2018.

In August 2008, she launched the Sanela Diana Jenkins Human Rights Project at the University of California, Los Angeles.The clinic focuses on legal and political advocacy, as well as documentation.It is the first endowed programme in the western United States on international justice and human rights.

Jenkins and actor Sean Penn founded the Jenkins-Penn Haitian Relief Organization shortly after the 2010 earthquake in Haiti to offer hospital supplies and medical assistance to thousands of displaced Haitians.
