Diego Verdaguer Career

Diego Verdaguer is a multi-platinum Argentine pop singer, composer, guitarist, and producer who is skilled in a variety of genres, including folk, Mexican regional music, and Latin pop. He is married to artist Amanda Miguel and has produced nine of her albums. He is a naturalised Mexican citizen who has sold over 20 million records and has been nominated for three Latin Grammys.

In March 1970, he sang at the Teatro Ferrocarrilero in Mexico City as Argentina’s representative at the Latin Song Festival. Moreno took Verdaguer to the Festival de Canciones de la Ciudad de la Plata after breaking his partnership with RCA Victor and El Trece; he won first place in the competition. He was signed to the MH label shortly after the festival. The track “Yo Te Amo,” which hit on Argentine radio, was his debut for them. He has seven number one hits in Argentina, all of which he co-wrote with musical director and producer Roberto Montiel and writer Rubén Lotes.

Verdaguer achieved his first international hit with his debut album, 1976’s Volveré. It charted in Mexico as well as Argentina and went multi-platinum, selling over five million copies. Other great successes included the single “Yo, Pescador de Amor” and “El Pasadiscos.” Verdaguer signed a multi-album deal with the Mexican company Melody, which rewarded his success by giving him complete artistic freedom.

Verdaguer founded his own record label, Diam Music, in 1987. The imprint’s first record, Sigo Vivo, was released in 1989 and was produced by Horacio Lanzi, Lorenzo Toppano, and Graciela Carballo. Since then, all of the singer’s productions have been distributed via Diam Music. He co-wrote “La Cara del Amor,” a song dedicated to Pope John Paul II on his second visit to Mexico, in 1990. “Vamos a Empezar de Nuevo,” a second duet between Verdaguer and Miguel, followed. On the MTV Latin channel, the video was the most popular.

Verdaguer’s Mexicano Hasta Las Pampas, released in 2009, marked a stylistic departure in the ranchero genre. Joan Sebastian produced the album and wrote the majority of the singles, including “Voy a Conquistarte” and “Quién de los Dos Será,” which both charted on Mexican radio. In Mexico and the United States, the album was certified platinum. Verdaguer published Juego de Valientes in 2012 to commemorate his 40 years in the music industry, which featured a dozen previously unreleased original compositions. Mexicano Hasta Las Pampas 2, the singer’s second ranchera album, was released in 2014. It was produced by Chucho Rincón and Fabián Rincón. Joan Sebastian co-wrote two songs for the album.
