Rakebi became the first Iranian female to compete full-time in the International Federation of Sport Climbing World Cup in 2016. In an interview, the athlete opened up about her journey, saying she had financed her own career while fighting gender discrimination.
“My friends congratulate me and encourage me to continue,” Rekabi said. But it’s true that every time someone asks me what I do, I’m taken aback. A female mountaineer?
