Emma Coronel Espuero first met El Chapo in 2006 at a party that was organized by her father. At that party, she was with her then boyfriend, while El Chapo was with another woman. The couple soon married on July 2, 2007. During their marriage, Espuero was only 18 years old, while El Chapo was 53 years old.
The wedding ceremony was attended by very few people and was heavily guarded by security forces.In 2012, she gave birth to twins, the Maria Jokina Guzman Coronel, and the Tamarind Guadalupe Guzman Coronel at Antelope Valley Hospital in Lancaster, which is north of Los Angeles.
