Girija Tickoo was a Kashmiri Pandit married woman from Bandipora and worked as a laboratory assistant at a government school in Kashmir with her brutally raped and murdered when she was just in her 20s. She is portrayed by Bhasha Sumbli (Sharda Pundit) in The Kashmir Files.
Girija Tickoo’s family has finally opened up about the incident which took place after staying silent for over three decades and hiding their inner feelings. Her niece whose name is Sidhi Raina uploaded a heartfelt post on her official Instagram account. In the note, she talked about how her family still waits for justice and urged everyone to watch the film.
While explaining what was happened to Girija, she said that the movie shows the horrifying nights of her family and of each and every Kashmiri Pandit’s family went through.
She also wrote that, “My father’s sister, Girija Tickoo, was a librarian by profession at a University who had gone to pick her paycheck. On her way back to the bus from which she was traveling, the bus stopped and what happened next still leaves me in shivers, tears, and nausea.”
She also stated that “My bua was then thrown into a taxi, where five men were present already and one of them being her colleague badly tortured her. Later they raped her, and then brutally murdered her by cutting her alive with a carpenter saw. Everyone was in extreme shock after this incident. Unfortunately, Girija never received justice as no action was taken against the culprits of this brutal murder and rape.”
