Valance began her acting career as Felicity Scully on the Australian soap drama Neighbours (1999–2002, 2005).

Her debut album Footprints,was released in October 2002 and featured her top three singles, “Kiss Kiss” (April 2002), “Down Boy” (September), and “Naughty Girl” (December). She had moved to Los Angeles by that time.

In 1999, at the age of sixteen, Valance was cast in the Australian television soap opera Neighbours as Felicity “Flick” Scully. Soon after securing the part, she left her Catholic school, “where girls were punished for wearing make-up or having hemlines above the knee.” She participated in a racy shower scene in the November 2000 music video for Human Nature’s “He Doesn’t Love You” In 2002, Valance quit Neighbours to pursue a career in music.

Her debut song, published in April 2002, was a cover of Tarkan’s “mark” in the English language, titled “Kiss Kiss.”The Australian musicologist Ian McFarlane characterised it as “a snappy dance pop hit.”

It debuted at number one on both the ARIA Singles and the UK Singles Charts. It charted in the top ten in seventeen countries, including the top spot in Macedonia. The music video director’s cut appeared to depict Valance dancing naked.
