Ivan Reitman OC was a Czechoslovak-born Canadian film and television director, producer and screenwriter. He was best known for his comedy work, especially in the 1980s and 1990s. He was the owner of The Montecito Picture Company, founded in 1998.

Ivan Reitman was born on October 27, 1946, in the predominantly ethnic Hungarian village of Komárno, Czechoslovakia, parents Klara and Ladislav “Leslie” Reitman. Reitman’s parents were both Hungarian Jews; his mother survived Auschwitz and his father was a member of the underground resistance. When Reitman was four years old, his family immigrated to Canada as refugees. Reitman was a member of the Twintone Four singing group at Oakwood Collegiate in Toronto. He earned a Bachelor of Music from McMaster University in 1969. He created and directed a number of short films while at McMaster.

Ivan Reitman Career and Movies
Reitman’s first work as a producer was with CITY-TV, a brand-new station in Toronto at the time. His later friend and collaborator Dan Aykroyd’s first announcing position was also in CITY. However, Reitman’s time at CITY was brief, and he was fired by station owner Moses Znaimer within his first year. Shivers (1975) and Rabid (1976), both directed by David Cronenberg, were Reitman’s first commercial cinematic efforts (1977).
In 1978, he produced National Lampoon’s Animal House and directed Meatballs, which gave him his big break. Following that, he directed and produced a number of comedies, including Stripes (1981), Ghostbusters (1984), Legal Eagles (1986), Twins (1988), Ghostbusters II (1989), Kindergarten Cop (1990), Dave (1993), Junior (1994), Six Days, Seven Nights (1998), Evolution (2001), My Super Ex-Girlfriend (2006), and No Strings Attached (2011).
In his final decade, Reitman also co-produced the biographical film Hitchcock, which was released on November 23, 2012, directed the 2014 sports drama Draft Day, which starred Kevin Costner, and acted as executive producer for Space Jam: A New Legacy, which was released in 2021.In mid-January 2019, Ivan’s son Jason Reitman was announced as co-writer and director of a new Ghostbusters film, Ghostbusters: Afterlife. Ivan stayed on as producer and used digital makeup to play Egon Spengler in place of Ramis.
On November 19, 2021, the film was released, and it was his final film.In March 2012, it was announced that a sequel to Twins, dubbed Triplets, was in the works, with Reitman serving as co-producer.In September 2021, Deadline reported that Reitman would direct and produce Triplets, with filming set to begin in January 2022.
Reitman was announced as the producer of the upcoming animated series Ghostbusters: Ecto Force in June 2016.Ecto Force was postponed in July 2017 so that Reitman could focus on an animated Ghostbusters feature that he would produce and co-direct with Fletcher Moules. There has been no progress on either project as of September 2021.
