White’s overall record places him near the top of the list of snooker’s most successful players, with a slew of major titles and achievements, including ten ranking tournaments. According to the BBC, he is a “legend.” He was a left-hander who reached the World Professional Championship Final six times (1984, 1990, and 1994), but he never won the sport’s most prestigious title after his first attempt in 1981.

White’s continued drop in the rankings saw him fall to 65th, but he recovered slightly to move up to 56th for the 2009-10 season. White is one of only seven players to have made a maximum break at the Crucible Theatre, which he accomplished in the 1992 World Snooker Championship. During his career, he has more than 300 century breaks.

White won the Masters in 1984, defeating Terry Griffiths 9-5 in the final.Following this success, he advanced to his first World Championship final. White responded by cutting the deficit to 15-16 after trailing Steve Davis 4-12 after the first two sessions. White reached the quarter-finals of a ranking event at the Paul Hunter Classic in Germany, his first appearance in over a decade. Despite several strong performances, he finished outside the top 64 and was forced to give up his tour card after 37 years as a pro. World Snooker, on the other hand, chose to extend White and Ken Doherty’s invitational tour card for another two years.

White won his first professional title in seven years after winning the World Seniors Tour’s UK Seniors Championship. He defeated amateur Les Dodd 3-1 in the quarter-finals and another amateur, Jonathan Bagley, by the same scoreline in the semi-finals. In the final, he faced Ken Doherty and won 4-2 to win the first edition of the event.

White later competed in the World Snooker Championship qualifiers, losing in the second round to Joe Perry.After winning the World Seniors Championship in August 2019, White qualified for the 2019 Champion of Champions tournament, where he lost 3-4 in the first round to Ronnie O’Sullivan.

White had no ranking wins until the first round of qualifying for the 2020 European Masters, when he defeated Hammad Miah 5-4 after trailing 3-1 and being 4-3 up. Mark Selby defeated White in Round Two. Jimmy White came back to defeat Ken Doherty 5-4 in the 2020 World Seniors Championship to retain his title.
