Trump administration has notified Congress of its intent to sell advanced F-35 fighter jets to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), a key lawmaker confirmed Thursday.Outgoing House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Eliot Engel confirmed the notification, saying its export "requires very careful consideration and Congress must analyze all of the ramifications."

Engel cited especially , possible ramifications for "Israel's military edge" within the region."Israel currently has exclusive access within the region to the F-35, which has guaranteed its military edge over the last several years," the congressman said during a statement. "As Congress reviews this sale, it must be clear that changes to the established order won't put Israel's military advantage in danger ."

The potential sale follows Abu Dhabi's U.S.-brokered opening of diplomatic ties with Israel.Abu Dhabi has long been seeking the fifth-generation aircraft and speculation has mounted that it might be allowed to get the F-35s after it opened relations with Tel Aviv .U.S. President Donald Trump has voiced a willingness to maneuver the sale forward, saying Friday "that process is moving along."The comment came at some point after Defense Secretary Mark Esper and his Israeli counterpart, Benny Gantz, confirmed Washington's strategic commitment to the qualitative military superiority of Israel within the Middle East .

Israel purchased 50 F-35 fighters from the U.S. in 2016, which were to be delivered to the Israeli Air Force during subsequent five years.
Engel said the transfer of the F-35 to the UAE "inevitably will generate demands from others within the region.""Will the worth for normalization with Israel be an infusion of advanced weapons? is that this wise?" he asked. "In the approaching days, I invite members of Congress who share my concerns to hitch me in introducing legislation to make sure that the sale of those sorts of weapons adheres to our most vital national security goals."
