Prince Philip Family Life
Philip was born on June 10, 1921 in Mon Repos, on the island of Corfu, Greece. Princess Alice of Battenberg and Prince Andrew of Greece and Denmark were his parents. He was born into the House of Glücksburg and was originally in the line of succession to the thrones of Denmark and Greece. Philip had four older sisters, and he was born into an unstable environment during the Greco-Turkish War, during which Greece lost considerable territory.
His father, Prince Andrew, was heading a military division when a military government overthrew King Constantine of Greece (Philip’s uncle) and forced him to abdicate. Ultimately, the new Greek administration expelled Prince Andrew and his family from the country. As a one-year-old infant sleeping in a fruit box, Philip was taken aboard a British military vessel sent to evacuate his family to safety. Eventually, the family made Paris their home.
Philip attended an American school in France while he was there. At the age of seven, he was sent to England to attend a preparatory school. Soon, he was left alone in British.
