Martin was selected by the Montreal Expos in the 35th round of the 2000 Major League Baseball draft, but he did not sign. He then attended Chipola College for two years before being drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 17th round of the 2002 Major League Baseball draft.
Martin was promoted to the Dodgers on May 5, 2006, after starting catcher Dioner Navarro suffered a wrist injury. In the game, he had two hits, including a double. Martin and Éric Gagné made baseball history on June 6, 2006, when they became the first French Canadian battery in the majors.
