Disha Ravi, a climate activist arrested and accused of sedition and conspiracy by the Delhi Police within the Toolkit case, may be a kind one that doesn't believe violence and her arrest may be a message to children from the govt , said her friend. "Disha is that the soft target, she is that the one that are going to be the poster child in order that the remainder folks don't speak up and are put in situ ," Vineeth Vincent, 31, a musician, who has known for around three years, told NDTV in a conversation.
Mr Vincent, who met Disha Ravi at multiple events, said: "I was partly shocked and partly not... at the news of her arrest. Because with the way things are happening, it's a joke. you set something on social media, you're arrested. If you say something against power, you're put in place".
Arrested from her hometown Bengaluru on Saturday, Disha Ravi has been placed in police custody for five days by a Delhi court. The Delhi Police said she had shared the "Toolkit" with Swedish teen activist Greta Thunberg, who tweeted it to point out support for farmers protesting against the Centre's farm laws.
The arrest, including the shortage of proper representation in court for her, has evoked outrage, with many in civil society and opposition parties blaming the magistrate and therefore the Delhi Police."The incontrovertible fact that this went on to her means it can happen to anybody folks . Disha, thankfully, is one those that did speak up against injustices," he added.
Countering the police allegation that the young activist was a key conspirator and in an effort to revive a Khalistani group, prepared and spread the Toolkit, Mr Vincent said Disha Ravi is against violence."Disha believes cows shouldn't be slaughtered, shouldn't be milked and will not be treated as commodities, which is why i feel she works at a plant-based company ," he said.
