
Sushil Kumar is an Indian wrestler. He was arrested on May 23, 2021 over alleged involvement within the murder of a 23 year old fellow wrestler Sagar Dhankar in Delhi. Sushil Kumar Early Life and Family
Kumar was born in Baprola village,near Najafgarh in South West Delhi. His father, Diwan Singh,was a driver in MTNL Delhi, while his mother, Kamla Devi, may be a housewife.Kumar was inspired to require up wrestling by his father, himself a wrestler, and his cousin Sandeep.

Sandeep later stopped competing because the family could only support one wrestler. Kumar trained in pehlwani wrestling at the akhada (wrestling school) within the Chhatrasal Stadium from the age of 14. With minimal funds and poor training facilities for wrestling in India, even for the 2008 Olympic team, his family made sure he obtained the required dietary supplements by sending him tinned milk, ghee and fresh vegetables.

Kumar started training in pehlwani at the Chhatrasal Stadium’s akhada at the age of 14. He was trained at the akhada by Yashvir and Ramphal, later by Arjuna awardee Satpal then at the Indian Railways camp by Gyan Singh and Rajkumar Baisla Gurjar.
After switching to freestyle wrestling Kumar’s first success came at the planet Cadet Games in 1998 where he won the trophy in his weight category, followed by a gold at the Asian Junior Wrestling Championship in 2000.
Moving out of the junior competitions, in 2003 Kumar won the trophy at the Asian Wrestling Championships and a gold at the Commonwealth Wrestling Championships. Sushil Kumar placed fourth at the 2003 World Championships, but this went largely unnoticed by the Indian media as he fared badly within the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, placing 14th within the 60 kg weight class.

Sushil Kumar was arrested along with a co-accused from northwest Delhi’s Mundka, police officials said.Police were on the lookout for Sushil Kumar for his alleged involvement in the death of a 23-year-old wrestler at a stadium in Delhi.
“A team of Special Cell led by Inspector Shivkumar, Inspector Karambir and supervised by ACP Attar Singh has arrested Sushil Kumar and Ajay from Mundka area of Delhi in connection with the killing of 23-year-old Sagar Rana at Chhatrasal Stadium,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) P S Kushwah said According to police, Sushil Kumar and his associates assaulted fellow wrestler Sagar Rana, 23, and his two friends on May 4 at the national capital’s Chhatrasal Stadium. All three had to be hospitalised. Mr Rana later died of his injuries.
