Sylvester Stallone Career
Sylvester Enzio Stallone is an actor, screenwriter, director, and producer from the United States. He gained his first critical praise as an actor for his co-starring part as Stanley Rosiello in The Lords of Flatbush, after labouring as a struggling actor for a number of years after coming in New York City in 1969 and then Hollywood in 1974.
Starting in 1976 with his role as boxer Rocky Balboa in the first film of the successful Rocky series (1976–present), for which he also wrote the screenplays, Stallone gradually found work as an extra or side character in films with a large budget until he achieved his greatest critical and commercial success as an actor and screenwriter. Rocky is portrayed in the films as an underdog boxer who defeats multiple severe opponents and twice wins the world heavyweight championship.
Stallone was the third actor in cinema history to receive two Academy Award nominations for Best Original Screenplay and Best Actor in 1977. Rocky, directed by Sylvester Stallone, was entered into the National Film Registry, and its props were donated to the Smithsonian Museum. The Rocky Steps were called after Stallone’s use of the front entrance to the Philadelphia Museum of Art in the Rocky series. Rocky has a permanent statue near the museum in Philadelphia, and he was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame.
Stallone’s films were not significant box office hits unless they were Rocky sequels until 1982, and none of them got the critical praise that the first Rocky did. This changed after he starred in the hit action film First Blood, in which he played PTSD-stricken soldier John Rambo.
The script for First Blood, which was based on David Morell’s eponymous novel, was drastically changed by Stallone during the film’s production. Stallone would go on to play Rambo in five films from 1982 to 2019. From the mid-1980s through the late 1990s, Stallone would go on to become one of Hollywood’s highest-paid actors by starring in a string of commercially successful action pictures that were lambasted by critics. These include Cobra, Tango and Cash, Cliffhanger, Demolition Man, and The Specialist, to name a few.
In the early 2000s, Stallone’s popularity waned, although he resurfaced in 2006 with the sixth instalment in the Rocky franchise and in 2008 with the fourth instalment in the Rambo franchise. In the 2010s, Stallone starred as mercenary Barney Ross in The Expendables film series (2010–2014). He starred in and acted in the successful Escape Plan in 2013, as well as its sequels.
In 2015, Stallone returned to the Rocky franchise with Creed, a series of spin-off films starring Michael B. Jordan as Adonis “Donnie” Creed, the son of the ill-fated fighter Apollo Creed, whom the long-retired Rocky mentors. Stallone received plaudits for reprising the character, winning his first Golden Globe trophy for the original Creed, as well as a third Oscar nomination, 40 years after he was initially nominated for the same role.
Stallone is the only actor in American film history to have starred in a box office number one film for six decades in a row. ( Source Wikipedia and News Websites )
