Bridgewater started the season as a backup to Will Stein as a freshman at Louisville in 2011. However, by the fourth game of the season, against Marshall, he was starting and remained the starter for the rest of the season. He finished the season 191 of 296 for 2,129 yards, 14 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. He was named Big East Rookie of the Year and a freshman All-American by Rivals.com, Scout.com, CBS Sports, and Sporting News for his performance.
