Trey Mancini Professional Career

The Orioles promoted Mancini to the major leagues on September 18, 2016, during September call-ups. In his major league debut as the designated hitter against the Boston Red Sox on September 20, he hit a home run against Eduardo Rodriguez in his second at bat.

 His parents were present to witness his first MLB homerun. After Larry Haney (1966), Nick Markakis (2006), and Jonathan Schoop (2007), Mancini became the fourth Orioles player to hit a home run for their first Major League hit (2013).

Mancini made the Orioles’ Opening Day roster in 2017 after moving to the outfield. Mancini hit his second multi-home run game of the season on April 16, driving in four runs. With seven home runs, he tied Trevor Story and Dino Restelli for the most in a player’s first 12 career games. Mancini hit his fifth home run of the season and eighth of his career on April 22. He tied for the most home runs in a player’s first 17 career games with Story and Carlos Delgado.

In 2018, Mancini batted first in 51 of 156 games. He finished the season with a.242 average, 24 home runs, and 58 RBIs. In late April, Mancini led the Orioles in nearly every offensive category. Along with Alex Bregman and Anthony Rendon, he is one of three MLB players with at least 35 doubles, 34 home runs, and 100 runs in 2019. On September 24, 2019, he set a career high with five hits in an 11-4 win over the Toronto Blue Jays at Rogers Centre. He finished the season with a.291 average, 35 home runs, and 97 RBIs.

Mancini left the Orioles during spring training on March 7, 2020, to undergo a non-baseball medical procedure. The procedure was revealed to be the removal of a malignant tumor from his colon on March 12.Mancini revealed he had stage 3 colon cancer on April 28 and began chemotherapy to treat it.As a result, he will miss the entire 2020 season. Mancini announced in November 2020 that he was cancer-free and would return to the Orioles in 2021.

Mancini rejoined the Orioles at the start of spring training and played in the team’s first preseason game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Orioles crowd gave Mancini a standing ovation before his first at-bat of the season in Baltimore. Mancini batted.255/.326/.432 with 21 home runs and 71 RBIs in 147 games in 2021. Mancini was named the American League Comeback Player of the Year on November 22, 2021.

On August 1, 2022, the Orioles acquired Mancini from the Houston Astros in a three-team trade that also included the Orioles acquiring Seth Johnson from the Tampa Bay Rays and Chayce McDermott from Houston, the Rays acquiring José Siri from Houston, and the Astros acquiring Jayce Murray from the Rays.
