When Trinny Woodall met Daily Telegraph columnist Susannah Constantine in 1994, her career took a positive turn. They soon decided to collaborate after a friend suggested it, launching ‘Ready to Wear,’ a weekly style guide for The Daily Telegraph that highlighted affordable fashion, in 1996.
‘Ready to Wear’ quickly gained popularity among readers and ran for seven years. Meanwhile, they made their television debut on Granada Sky, hosting a daytime shopping show called Ready to Wear. However, it was their recurring makeover slot on Richard & Judy that provided them with much-needed exposure.
They launched an online venture called ‘Ready2wear.com’ in November 1999. However, it had to be dissolved by July 2001, owing to the fact that online shopping had not yet caught up, resulting in a £10 million loss. Meanwhile, they released their first fashion book, Ready 2 Dress, in 2000, which also failed.
She was about to lose her confidence after being disheartened by her failures when she received a call from BBC Two. Their appearance on Richard & Judy had piqued the interest of the channel’s controller, who offered them a slot.
